WE WON! We had our sights set on the top of the podium for our final event of the season, a NORCECA in Port of Spain, Trinidad. It felt amazing to have all our hard work pay off and end our year on a high note.
Looking back, I'm blown away by how much we've experienced this year. This has been mine and Jamie's most successful season. Not only did we win the first tournament of the year, a NORCECA in the Cayman Islands, we went on to earn our first top 10 finish at the first FIVB event of the season in Fuzhou, China. We capped off our FIVB World Tour with 3 more top 10 finishes (in Brazil, China and Thailand). Between March and December this year, we competed in 16 international events, in 14 different countries. Jamie jokes that sometimes we wake up in the morning and have to take a second to remember where in the world we are!
...and speaking of Jamie, she has been such an awesome teammate, travel buddy and friend. I appreciate everything she brings to our team, from her competitiveness on the court to her street smarts when travelling. I love working with her, she is a very special person.
I'd also like to send out a huge thank you to our coach, John May, who started working with us last winter, leading up to the event in the Cayman Islands. His belief in us and his dedication to our team has encouraged us to work hard and see we actually do have what it takes to be the best. He's been such a big factor to our success and we just can't thank him enough!!
I have learned so much, and I'm so grateful to have the opportunity to be able to travel and play the sport I love!
I truly feel incredibly lucky.
All this training and traveling is done in an effort to work to towards the Olympics in 2016. As you can see, it is quite a demanding lifestyle... especially financially! If you are interested in supporting our journey, please check out this website! Not only will you be helping us out in a HUGE way, you can pick a gift that we will 'give back' to you. Check it out!
